Obituary for Mary Louise Carus

Mary Louise Carus, passed away on Sunday morning on the third of November at Manor Court in Peru.

A memorial celebration will be held at the Hegeler Carus Mansion (North entrance) at 3:00 PM on the first of December. In the case of overflow, the ceremony will be short and repeated as necessary so everyone can pay their respects to Mary Louise and her lifelong work. Mary Louise’s ashes and memorial book will be available for visitation and inscription from Noon to 5:00 PM, the second to the sixth of December at the Hegeler Carus Mansion. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.

Mary Louise was a graduate of the Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland and recognized as a Jungian Psychologist, a Jungian Analyst, author and editor of a dozen books related to Jungian thought, mostly published by Open Court. She was the organizer and leader of Tomagami, a camp for adolescents and adults in Northern Canada to pursue a “vision quest”. Mary Louise was also a major benefactor for the Starved Rock Area arts organizations.

She is survived by two brothers, Blouke (Marianne) Carus, Peru, IL and Edward Hegeler Carus, Jr., Honolulu, HI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Blouke Carus and Edward Hegeler Carus; her brother, Paul Carus II and her sister Theodate Carus Harter.
